About Robert & His Music

I have met many artists in my life and was graced to know some on a very personal level. Whether they are musicians, painters, writers etc, they all have a common thread. If you also know some of these gifted folk you know what I mean. It seems to those God gave these special gifts, it came at a cost.. or is the talent more a reward for what they have suffered? A great gift for the great pain their deeper sensitive natures must endure in this harsh world. Whatever it is, they all have the same profile to varying degrees.

This profile I find is a tortured soul, and often still suffering. Each having great abuse in their lives.. and now many a recluse from society or unable to find their place because of it. The normal life swing of sorrow & joy, failure & success and pain & relief that we learn to take in stride is something they find impossible to handle. If there is a bell curve in life, they are over the edge hanging on the clapper and banging with the bell. It is because of this roller coaster they ride that their art is so very deep.. pulling our dulled emotions to the raw edge of theirs.

Robert is the most gifted natural musician I have ever met.. and so I understood when he also was the most tortured. He has not found his place in our society and sadly I seriously doubt he ever will. What he has suffered that brought this great gift cannot be erased and it goes with him. It is the one constant in his life and where it seems he must always return. If memories were demons, then he is a man possessed.

As you listen to Robert's music, think on what I have said. Journey with him through his music. Ponder on each title's meaning and feel that truth in the song. You can hear the pain & despair.. the dance to survive.. and most inspiring, still the hope of a new day. This IS music that stirs the soul. Join my prayer that he learns to laugh at his demons and to scatter them to the winds. Only then will he finally find peace on earth.
